Funeral Costs:

APPLICATION - FORM 1 ADULT or 2 CHILD / STILLBORN

The cost of a funeral in Australia usually comes as a surprise to members of our community, in particular for those who have migrated from countries where the fees are borne by the state.

The bulk of the fee for a funeral conducted by QIFS is related to the local council fees & charges (usually over 2/3), and these vary across the various local councils. The councils always have additional fees for after hour and weekend burials. QIFS does not have any additional fees and charges for after hour, weekend or public holidays.

An approximate breakdown of the fees is as follows:
Local council fees (which varies annually and depending on weekend and overtime charges) + the Ghusl Facility fee of $350 + Kaffan $150 + the Grave preparation and utility fee (including timber) of $350 + the death certificate application fee of $54 payable to the Department of Births, Deaths and marriages, and lastly the QIFS fee of $1000 (which includes the SMS fee, AFDA membership fee, staff wages, and all transfer / transport costs within Brisbane and the Gold Coast metro areas).
Fees do not include transfers or burial outside of the Brisbane and Gold Coast Metro areas.

Embalming fees for overseas repatriation and interstate transfers will be additional as per company providing this services.

The Ghusl facility fee is paid on to the facility which performs the Ghusl, and the grave preparation fee is paid to the organisation which prepares the grave internally, if either of these are different from QIFS.

QIFS operates on a not for profit basis and none of its Directors benefit in anyway financially from any proceeds.

ALL proceeds are used to manage and run the service, which operates as a self-sufficient organisation, and we constantly strive to improve the facility or services we manage.

ADULT FEES:

All local council fees are reviewed annually and usually increase from 1st July each year.

Office hour fees apply to funerals held during normal working hours (generally Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 3:30pm). However, times and charges may vary depending on the council, day, and time of burial.

QIFS does not charge additional fees for after-hours or weekend burials. Please note that extra transport charges may apply for funerals outside Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

All fees must be paid on the day of the funeral.

STILLBORN FUNERAL FEES:

Stillborn burials are available at Mt Gravatt Cemetery (Muslim Section) and Coomera Cemetery.

The fees listed below cover the complete funeral cost, including all Local Council fees, QIFS service fees (staff wages, transport within Brisbane & Gold Coast, SMS notifications, and AFDA membership), Ghusl facility, Kaffan, grave preparation (including timber), death registration, and the official death certificate.

Please note that these are estimated fees and may vary slightly due to council fee changes. Council fees are reviewed annually in July.

All prices are estimates and are inclusive of GST as at 0/04/2026.
